Erin Canty

Erin holds a Degree from Dean College as a dance major. While at Dean, she performed with the Dean Dance Company, in the musicals “Fiddler on the Roof” and “Anything Goes”, and student dance showcases. College accreditations include“Phi Theta Kappa” inductee, “Martin Dance” scholarship, “Rosco Woodward” scholarship, and The “Beryl Martin Memorial Award in Dance and Theatre”. After graduating Dean, Erin furthered her education at the renowned Alvin Ailey American Dance Center in New York City, under the direction of Judith Jamison. She studied Horton, Dunham, Jazz, Ballet, and African dance. She took class at “Broadway Dance Center” and “Steps on Broadway” with renowned teachers and choreographers: Tabitha and Napoleon D’umo ”Nappy Tabs”, Chris Judd, Stacey Tookey and the late and great, Frank Hatchett. Erin performed variousroles in “The Nutcracker” and “Alice in Wonderland” with Dance Prism Ballet Company. In 2000, Erin established Canty Dance Centre. 5 years later, her studio was named “50 Studios on the Move” by Dance Teacher/Dance Spirit Magazine. 13 years of involvement in community fundraisers and events to raise money for foundations close to her heart, such as Little Hearts, Inc., Special Olympics, and The American Cancer Society, her studio was awarded the “Golden Torch Award”. Erin adjudicated for the Miss Plymouth and Miss Middleboro pageants in 2013, and Step Up 2 Dance Talent Competition for the past 5 seasons. Erin has won numerous awards for her “innovative choreography” and “story telling”. She draws inspiration from other members of the dance community and takes every opportunity to share her love of the arts with her peers.Erin has worked for some of the area’s most prestigious studios, and is now excited to add Putnam Dance Center to that list. Recently, Erin joined the respected organization, Dance Masters of American New England Chapter 5. She is honored to share this privilege with other dance educators.
